Individual Counseling

Anxiety · Depression · Substance Abuse · Trauma

Maybe you feel nervous, uncomfortable, ambivalent, or don't want to open painful memories but know that "something needs to change." You're in good hands. Each session is private and just for you so are comfortable, relaxed, and work on what you want and at your pace.

I believe that learning how the past influences the present is how people work through issues from trauma all the way to day-to-day anxiety. Together, we pay extra attention to how your life has evolved as a person, not a symptom. I understand that we all do things for a reason, even though that reason might not be known when you first start counseling. By finding context to the things you think, feel, and do many people are able to process and overcome bad memories from their past, which spill over into the present day.

Yes! Teletherapy is available.

Almost all services can be provided through teletherapy. If you are a Virginia resident, this is easy, my license covers your state. Out of state or out of the country? Lets have a chat, there are many areas that I can use teletherapy for.  All you need is a quiet, confidential room, internet access, and a computer. I use the teletherapy system through Counsol, which is HIPAA compliant and encrypted. There is no need to download any additional software and at your appointment time you will receive a link in your email to login and begin.

What Does It Cost to Work with Michael?

55 minute individual sessions: $200

I accept FSA and HSA accounts, but I don’t take insurance. We can navigate this and I am happy to provide you with a form you can send in to your insurance for possible reimbursement. That means you’re responsible for the fees at the time of our appointment and, depending on your insurance plan, a certain percentage of that may be paid to you by your insurance company.

I encourage you to call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what your “out-of-network” benefits are so there aren’t any financial surprises. Ask them where to send what’s called a “Superbill,” that’s the form I’ll give you. I’ll give you everything you need for that, you just need the address.
